Stop At: Sa Paper & Umbrella Handicraft Center, 99/16 Baan Nongkong, Sankampaeng Rd., Chiang Mai Thailand

In the area of San Khampaeng, handicrafts are produced and visitors are always welcome to watch the production, and of course to purchase some of the goods. You can watch the full steps of the production of the famous Thai Silk as well as of the colorful paper umbrellas. These brilliantly-colored parasols are among favorites once completed and hand-painted with flowers and traditional Thai motives.

Skilled craftsmen transform teakwood with the help of simple tools into elegant furniture with delicate carvings. Also fascinating to watch is the production of lacquer ware, even eggshells are used to achieve unusual designs. Silverware is on offer in such a great variety that even the most modest visitor will be tempted to buy some as there is always something available for any taste

Generations long, families have mastered and transferred the finer art of the well-known Celadon Ceramics. The art of making these exquisite ceramics is modeled on Sawankhalok pottery made over 700 years ago in Sukhothai period. Then make a stop to observe the intricacies of lacquer-ware and silverware of craftsmen before returning to your hotel.
