Lying south of Chiang Mai, Doi Inthanon, at 8,500 feet above sea level, is the highest peak in the country. Doi Inthanon is part of the Himalayan mountain range and a designated national park. The moist natural environment is a paradise for wildlife as it is home to almost 400 species of animals, flowers and plants. A steep climb brings us to the summit which is surprisingly flat, misty and breezy. Take a short walk to see a small stupa which contains the remains of Chao Inthawichayanon, the last independent ruler of Chiang Mai who died in 1897 after Lanna Kingdom became part of Siam. Enjoy exploring around Ang-Kha Nature Trail. Visit the Twin Pagodas built by the Thai Air force in honor of their Majesties, the King and Queen, for their 60th birthday anniversary. A visitors center nearby contains tourist information in Thai and English. Stop on the way down to shop at the Hmong Tribal Market and look for colorful local vegetables, fruits and flowers from nearby farms. Lunch will be served at the local restaurant. Drive through Baan Khun Klaang, the biggest Hmong community of Doi Inthanon, which is part of the Royal Project, initiated by his Majesty the King in order to stop the hill tribes from growing the opium as well as to limit deforestation and poverty in the region. Explore and take photos of beautiful flowers, plantations and organic farmland inside the project area. Continue down to the Karen Hill Village at Baan Sop Had. The last stop is at Wachiratarn Waterfall. Relax by the cool falls and freshen up after a long day tour. Transfer back to your hotel in Chiang Mai. This tour is private.
